Terms of Service
Version 2026-08-01 · Last updated August 1, 2026
In plain English: play fair, don't be cruel to other players, don't cheat or attack the servers. The game is in pre-alpha, so things will break and worlds may be reset. Your account is yours to use, not to sell. We can close accounts that break these rules.
These terms are an agreement between you and Net Artisan Collective (“we”, “us”), operators of Afterlife Online (“the Game”). By creating an account or playing, you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the Game.
1. This is a pre-alpha game
Afterlife Online is under active development and is provided free of charge. That has real consequences you should understand before investing time:
- The Game may be unavailable, unstable, or broken at any time.
- Characters, items, and progress may be changed, reset, or permanently lost, including during full world resets. We try hard to avoid this and to warn you in advance, but we cannot promise your progress will survive.
- Features may be added, changed, or removed without notice.
- We may stop operating the Game entirely. If we plan to, we will try to give reasonable notice.
2. Your account
- You must be at least 13 years old to create an account.
- You must give a real email address you control, and confirm it. Account security notices go there.
- You are responsible for keeping your password secret and for everything done through your account. Tell us promptly if you think someone else has access to it.
- One person may hold more than one account, but you may not use multiple accounts to evade a ban, to gain an unfair advantage, or to distort in-game systems such as the auction house.
- Accounts, characters, and in-game items are licensed to you for personal entertainment. You may not sell, rent, or trade them for real-world money or value.
3. Rules of conduct
While using the Game or its community spaces, you agree not to:
- harass, threaten, stalk, or bully other players, or engage in hate speech targeting anyone;
- post sexually explicit content, or content sexualizing minors in any way;
- impersonate other players, our staff, or anyone else;
- cheat — including modifying the client, automating play with bots, exploiting bugs for gain, or using third-party tools that give an unfair advantage. If you find an exploit, report it instead;
- attack the service — including denial-of-service, unauthorized access attempts, scraping, or deliberately overloading our servers;
- spam, scam, phish, or advertise unrelated products;
- share content that infringes someone else's copyright or other rights;
- use the Game for anything unlawful.
We may remove content, suspend, or permanently close accounts that break these rules. Where it is reasonable to do so, we will tell you why.
4. Content you submit
You keep ownership of what you create — chat messages, character names, bug reports, forum posts. By submitting it through the Game, you give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, display, and use it as needed to operate and improve the Game. That includes using bug reports and any screenshots you attach to diagnose problems.
You are responsible for what you submit, and you confirm you have the right to submit it.
5. Our content
The Game — its code, art, music, characters, writing, and the world of Caelor — belongs to Net Artisan Collective and its licensors, and is protected by copyright and other laws. You may play the Game and share screenshots, recordings, and streams of your own play, including monetized videos. You may not copy, sell, decompile, or redistribute the Game or its assets, or build a competing service from them, without our written permission.
6. Donations
Donations are voluntary gifts that support development. They are processed by Stripe, are not purchases of any in-game item, advantage, or service, and are not refundable except where the law requires it.
7. Suspension and termination
You may stop playing at any time and ask us to delete your account (see the Privacy Policy). We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach these terms, that we reasonably believe are harming other players or the service, or where we are required to by law. If we close the Game down, all accounts end with it.
8. No warranty
The Game is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose or uninterrupted availability. You play at your own risk.
9. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for lost progress, lost items, or lost data. Because the Game is free, our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or fifty US dollars.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
10. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If we make material changes we will update the version and date above and ask you to accept the new version in-game. Your account records which version you accepted. If you do not accept a new version, you may stop using the Game and ask us to delete your account.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the State of Delaware, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If you live in a country whose consumer law gives you additional protections or the right to bring proceedings locally, this section does not take those rights away from you.
